My Bio
In 1981, after attending California Institute of the Arts and The Musicians Institute of Technology and studying with some of the top composers and studio musicians in Los Angeles, I began my career as the music director for the American Continental Circus. After several years on the road, I returned to L.A. with the goal of working in television.
In 1988, I was hired by Jonathan Wolff, who at the time had just landed his first major sitcom, Who’s The Boss?. I worked with Jonathan for five years producing main title themes, weekly music cues and source music cues for Who’s The Boss?, Seinfeld and several other prime-time sitcoms.
In 1993, I began to do sound design and post-production audio. Game design and interactive video were emerging technologies, and I created the sound for several early computer games. Doing business as Circus Music International I also created soundtracks for touring shows, including the Carson & Barnes Circus and Gatti Productions’ Circus Gatti.
After relocating to Miami in 1996, I began working at Broadcast Video, Inc. where I was a member of a very strong audio team that included five top-notch composers, sound designers and mixers. The BVI audio team was responsible for the music and sound design for the McDonalds US Hispanic and Latin American Happy Meal campaign for Del Rivero Messianu, Young & Rubicam’s Texaco and Bally’s Total Fitness campaigns, as well as hundreds of on-air promos for Sky TV, The Travel Channel Latin America and local, regional and Latin American Radio.
In 2001, I went to work as a one-man operation within a video post boutique running Steve Lack Audio at the Motion Image Communications facility. As a one-man audio suite, I not only recorded, mixed, edited, composed and created sound for television, radio and corporate video, I also had the opportunity to be an electrical engineer, wiring up the room for 5.1 surround; dub rack tech, making sure the clients leave with everything they need; and salesman, keeping the room booked 20-30 bill-able hours a week.
In 2004 I moved to the Richmond, VA, area and started working around the country as a freelance audio engineer and studio consultant which led to a staff mixer position, in 2006, with Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, MD. I am currently working with Discovery mixing shows for their US and International networks in stereo and surround. I also create sound design and mixes for on-air promos for Animal Planet, Science Channel, Investigation Discovery and Planet Green.
